I’ve never been huge on Valentine’s Day. I’m not particularly romantic despite my deep love for Pride & Prejudice (all iterations of Mr Darcy are perfect in their own way) or the contents of my Kindle. What I am invested in, however, is making my husband laugh, preferably while plying him with my handmade craft gifts. When it comes to Valentine’s Day gift ideas, I’ll always choose something funny, thoughtful, and homemade over anything traditional.
I’ve been dreaming up ideas for a crafty and creative Valentine’s Day gift for my husband, and after subjecting him to the late-night, frantic Birthday Dough gift card box creation, I decided he deserved his own cuter version of this craft. He’s also a passionate pizza consumer, so this quirky pizza box Valentine’s Day gift ticks many boxes.

I once gifted my husband (then boyfriend) a book of questions I’d filled out about him, things like “I love you because…” and “Your best feature is…”, and he absolutely loved it. It still lives safely in his bedside table, where he occasionally whips it out to prove just how obsessed with him I was (and still am). It turns out personalised Valentine’s Day gifts are very effective when your goal is equal parts romance and ego inflation.
Inspired by that, I’ve designed a stack of fillable cards to sit inside the pizza box as a budget-friendly way to express how much I love him and make this handmade Valentine’s Day gift even more meaningful. It’s an easy way to turn a simple DIY Valentine’s printable into something truly personal. Make the answers as sentimental, funny, or spicy as you like (have I been reading too many spicy books?). That part is entirely up to you.

If you want to make your own, here’s what you’ll need for your printable gift box:
Materials
- The digital files – Available from Etsy
- Cardstock – between 200gsm and 300gsm for a solid box
- Printer – Either a home printer or a local print shop
- Scissors or Craft Knife
- Ruler
- Scoring Tool – Could be a specialised scoring tool, a ball point pen that has run out of ink, a smooth butter knife. I use the Cricut brand scoring stylus which I love.
- Double sided tape or glue

How to make your Valentine’s Gift Box
- Print your template.
- I suggest using thicker cardstock (200gsm or more) so that the box is strong enough to hold its shape.
- When you open the file, it includes 4 designs – Outside of box, Inside of box, Insert and Love Notes.
- Print Outside of box and Inside of box as double sided on a single piece of cardstock.
- Print the Insert and Love Notes single sided each on their own sheet.
- I’ve designed the template to print on an A4 or US Letter sized page to make it easier to print at home. However if you don’t have access to a printer/need thicker cardstock, you can send this file to your local print shop.
- Cut and score!
- Either with scissors or a craft knife and ruler, cut along the edges of the box. I’m so useless with scissors that I find a craft knife gives me a much cleaner finish.
- For the Box and Insert, score along each fold with your scoring tool of choice. This will give you a much crisper, more professional finish than you would get without doing this step.
- Once you’ve scored the folds, you’ll need to go through and fold each one. I run a bone folder over each fold for a super crisp fold but the back of your fingernail works just as well.
- Cut out your questionnaire cards and fill them in.
- Scroll down to the end of the instructions to see a photo showing all the score/fold lines.
- Stick it all together
- Using either double sided tape or glue, apply to the box tabs then stick together.
- For the insert, add tape or glue to the outermost sections, fold and stick inside the finished box.
- Scroll down to see a photo showing where to stick your tape.
- Add your love notes or gift cards!
- You’re Done! Time to give your gift and bask in your partner’s love and appreciation.

Totally on brand, I’ve started 2026 with another whirlwind creative project. As much as I’m a bit of a grinch when it comes to Valentine’s Day, it’s actually been really nice to focus on a romantic and cute Valentine’s Day craft for once. Creating a funny DIY Valentine’s gift felt like a welcome palette cleanser after the madness of the Christmas rush.
I’m genuinely happy with how this silly but thoughtful Valentine’s DIY turned out. Now that I’ve made a Valentine’s Day gift for adults, I’m already looking ahead to creating something fun for kids too. I’ve got a few ideas in mind, so watch this space.
